Skin & Nail Conditions

Good skin and nail care is an important element for overall health, but it can be somewhat more challenging for our feet.

Just think about it. We often force our feet into the dark, enclosed, semi-damp environment of shoes for much of the day. But even when we allow them to be free, they’re still on the front lines against the world, potentially coming into contact with pathogens and other harmful substances (such as coffee table legs).

It’s not an ideal world for our toenails and the skin of our feet, and problems can and often do develop. While these conditions can sometimes be taken care of at home, the professional help from one of our podiatrists in Portsmouth or Nashua can make for an easier experience.

Common Skin & Nail Conditions

Common skin and nail conditions we treat at Northeast Foot and Ankle include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • Athlete’s foot
  • Black toenails
  • Blisters
  • Corns & calluses
  • Cracked heels

Many of these conditions can be painful, and in some cases even medically dangerous—especially if you have diabetes or a weakened immune system.

However, even if your condition is simply an aesthetic nuisance, you should never hesitate to call the team at Northeast Foot and Ankle for help. These problems are very common, and they’re also very treatable. There’s no need to continue to suffer or feel embarrassed—we are here to help you look and feel your best!

Comprehensive and Advanced Treatment Options from Northeast Foot and Ankle

We take skin and nail conditions seriously, and provide a comprehensive range of treatment options for almost every condition.

Some conditions may respond well to simple home treatments. Others may require a more active, professionally guided solution. Either way, we’ll help you determine which is the best fit for your existing skin or nail condition.

Our office is equipped with the Cutera GenesisPlus laser system, which provides state-of-the-art and effective treatment for a variety of common skin and nail conditions:

  • Eradicating fungal nail infections to help provide significant clearing of the nail. It’s a drug-free, pain-free, side-effect-free alternative to traditional oral antifungal therapy.
  • Eliminating plantar warts naturally without burning, freezing, or cutting. The laser cuts off the blood supply to the wart, which leads toward disappearing naturally. The process less damaging to your healthy skin than traditional wart treatments, and requires no aftercare.
  • Reducing the appearance of visible scarring from wounds, surgical incisions, burns, and other sources by stimulating natural collagen production and regenerating upper layers of skin.

Our office also carries a wide selection of over-the-counter skin and nail care products. In many cases, these products and medications can only be distributed directly from a doctor’s office, and are of superior quality to alternatives available from a general pharmacy. Many of these items are listed (along with pricing information) here.
